To search for meters to read:
-
Specify any of the following criteria to locate the desired meter sites:
-
Meter Site Group – the name of the meter site group
-
Utility – the type of utility being read
-
Utility System – the utility system associated with the meter site
-
Open Bill Period – the billing period for the reading; you are not allowed to enter readings for closed billing periods
-
Property – the property where the meter site is located

The set of meters that match the specified criteria are displayed.
When meter results appear, you are given three entry method options:
-

-
Consumption – If you enter readings in Consumption mode, you can enter the consumption amount and the readings will be calculated
-
Detail – If you enter readings in Detail mode you can enter either readings or consumption
Choose Meter Reading to enter Demand Reading and Reading information. To add a meter reading:
-
Select Meter Reading as the entry method.
For each meter site, the following information is displayed:
- Meter Site – the meter site name; click this link to open the View Meter Site page
- Group – the meter site group to which the meter site belongs
- Order – a number indicating the sequence in which this meter site should be read within its meter site group
- Last Update Date – the date on which this meter was last read
- Previous Read Date – the date on which the most recent reading was entered
- Previous Demand – the last demand reading value entered for the utility
- Previous Reading – the most recent reading entered for the meter site
- Previous Consumption – the most recent consumption calculated for the meter site
-
In the Read Date field, select the reading date.
-
In the Demand Reading field, enter the demand reading.
A demand reading is the maximum use of the utility during a given interval. This is often used to calculate a separate charge for energy used during peak hours, which energy companies often prepare for to meet the higher demand. For example, electricity during off-peak hours may cost 1.8 cents per kiloWatt hour; during peak hours, 3.3 cents per kiloWatt hour. The value entered in this field cannot be larger than the maximum meter format value, which is specified on the meter record, if the meter is attached to the meter site.
-
In the Reading field, enter the current reading.
The value entered cannot be larger than the maximum meter format value, which is specified on the meter record, if the meter is attached to a meter site. If the number entered is less than the previous reading, a warning will appear indicating that a meter rollover is detected. Click OK to proceed with the current reading, or CANCEL to correct the entry.
If no meter is attached to the meter site, the Demand Reading and Reading fields display No Meter Attached and cannot be edited. If a recurring estimate code is set for the meter site, the fields display Recurring Estimate and cannot be edited.
Once vales have been entered in both fields, the Consumption field updates.
-
Click UPDATE.
If any values entered are invalid, the system will display an error message and no values will be saved.
If values are entered and a different entry method is selected, for example, Consumption or Detail, a dialog box warns you that you have unsaved changes. Click OK to discard changes and switch entry methods. Click Cancel to return.
Choose Meter Reading to directly enter Demand Consumption and Consumption information. To add a consumption reading:
-
Select Consumption as the entry method.
For each meter site, the following information is displayed:

- Previous Read Date – the date on which the most recent reading was entered
- Previous Demand – the last demand reading value entered for the utility
- Previous Reading – the most recent reading entered for the meter site
- Previous Consumption – the most recent consumption calculated for the meter site
- Demand Reading – the most recently entered demand reading
- Reading – the most recently entered reading
-

- Previous Reading – the most recent reading entered for the meter site
- Previous Consumption – the most recent consumption calculated for the meter site
- Demand Reading – the most recently entered demand reading
- Reading – the most recently entered reading
-
In the Estimate Code field, select an estimate code value.
The estimate code provides a description of the meter reading at the time it was taken. For example, if a meter reading was taken at a meter site where everything was working properly, an estimate code of Good may be selected. If a meter reading is taken at a meter site where the meter was damaged, an estimate code of Broken Meter may apply.
The estimate code value indicates why an estimate value is being entered, for example, if a meter is broken.
- In the Read Date field, select the reading date.
